About BBMP
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP): Bangalore, known for its pleasant climate, is a city with a rich history and cultural heritage. According to legend, Bangalore derived its name from the Kannada words “BendhaKaaLu” (boiled beans). It is said that a king, exhausted and hungry, was offered only boiled beans by an old woman, leading to the place being called “BendhaKaaLuooru” (meaning “city of boiled beans” in Kannada). Over time, this evolved into “BengaLooru” in Kannada and “Bangalore” in English.
However, historical records indicate that the name “BengaLooru” dates back even earlier, appearing in a 9th-century temple inscription in Begur village. Interestingly, an area called “HalebengaLooru” or “Old Bangalore” still exists today within the city, specifically in Kodigehalli, preserving a connection to Bangalore’s origins.Update Latest BBMP Notifications Here
